NEXT TO NORMAL
COMPOSED BY TOM KITT, LIBRETTO BY BRIAN YORKEY | CAP 21 5TH FLOOR THEATRE
Dad's an architect; Mom rushes to pack lunches and pour cereal; their daughter and son are bright, wise-cracking teens, appearing to be a typical American family. And yet their lives are anything but normal because the mother has been battling bipolar disorder for 16 years. Next to Normal takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character, presenting their family's story with love, sympathy and heart.
The groundbreaking, award-winning musical explores how one suburban family copes with crisis and mental illness. An intense, emotional and ultimately hopeful musical that aims right for the heart with its story of a family coming to terms with its past and bravely facing its future.
The First New York City Revival of Next to Normal by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey played at the CAP21 5th Floor Theatre from October 25 - November 11, 2012.
