Edgar Allan Poe lies unconscious in a gutter, dreaming of the women who shaped his life. But in the morning will he wake to dawn, or eternal darkness? Nevermore is a provocative new chamber musical that sets Edgar Allan Poe’s writings to music, telling the story of his relationships with five women in his life.

The musical premiered at the TONY Award-winning Signature Theatre in 2006 and was a critical and popular success having to extend its initial run, with The Washington Post describing it as “a dreamscape of a musical.” Matt Conner’s score has been universally praised, attached to words like “hauntingly beautiful” (Theatermania.com) and “dark, lush and swooningly romantic” (Washington City Paper).

The NY premiere of Nevermore by Matt Conner and Grace Barnes played at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre on November 7, 2011 in a concert adaptation.
